Senior Database Developer

This position will focus initially on (re)development of medium-to-large scale refactoring efforts which are almost entirely encompassed in TSQL code today. Much of this code will be refactored within TSQL; some of it will be pulled out of TSQL (and replaced with drastically simplified TSQL specifically). You'll be responsible for helping make those determinations in addition to implementing solutions for them (the TSQL portions at a minimum). In addition to this work (and moving further into the future) you'll become responsible for new database feature/functionality development, database design decisions, ongoing quality and performance improvements, and more. You will have the freedom to propose and implement sweeping change to existing and future large, complex TSQL code modules - and be accountable for the results. Though this position is likely to have some production support/operational component related to existing issues, the primary focus is developing and enhancing new/existing code modules.

You will:
  • Write (and rewrite) a lot of T-SQL code
  • Share the responsibility of producing reliable, repeatable, consistent, and accurate results
  • Be accountable for your code, choices, and actions
  • Need the capacity (and desire) to read, comprehend, troubleshoot, and rewrite large, complex, interconnected TSQL code
  • Navigate a variety of application code bases in a variety of languages (primarily C#) to understand application and database interactions
You must:
  • Demonstrate broad and deep proficiency with:
    • SQL Server development and performance tuning
    • The TSQL language
    • Table, schema, index, etc. design and considerations
  • Possess solid working knowledge of any mainstream object oriented or scripting programming language (i.e. C#, PowerShell, Python, Go, etc.)
  • Be willing to give and take open, honest, and constructive criticism
  • Be able to provide and review recommendations, challenge and defend various solutions, and make pragmatic decisions and compromises
  • Communicate effectively with other techies, product and program managers/owners, managers, and other stakeholders to define requirements and detail solutions
  • 5+ years of experience with SQL Server database design and development
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related technical degree
