POSITION SUMMARY:
The Application Database Administrator’s role is to design production databases and provide support for specific applications. This individual focuses on the logical aspects of the database and application data.
 
ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
 
Strategy & Planning:
  • Participate in Agile planning and execution.
  • Work with application development staff to develop database architectures, coding standards, and quality assurance policies and procedures.
  • Share support, release, and on-call responsibilities for an always-on 24x7 site.

 
Operational Management:
  • Create models for new database development and/or changes to existing ones
  • Install, maintain and support applications that read/write to the database
  • Understand the needs and requirements of the applications using the databases and provide support for these applications
  • Coordinate multiple applications accessing the same database
  • Write and debug lines of SQL code for applications
  • Create or support creation of required reports in response to business user needs
  • Responsibility for maintaining the integrity and performance of company databases
  • Instruct data administration to ensure data quality

 
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
  • Strong understanding of database structures, theories, principles, and practices
  • Working technical experience with designing, building, installing, configuring, and supporting database servers and cluster technology.
  • Experience in Cloud migration and Database services.
  • Experience creating basic database objects (view, functions, stored procedures, triggers, indexes, etc.)
  • Experience with SQL Replication and High Availability (Mirroring, Log Shipping and others).
  • Basic Knowledge in SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS).
  • Basic Knowledge in SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS).
  • Basic Knowledge with the usage of DMVs.
  • Hands-on database tuning and troubleshooting experience
  • Experience with data processing flowcharting techniques
  • Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws
  • Good written and oral communication skills, as well as good interpersonal skills
  • Strong technical documentation skills
  • Keen attention to detail
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Strong customer service orientation
  • Ability to conduct research into database issues, standards, and products as required
  • Highly self-motivated and directed, with the ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment

 
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field
  • 5 years minimum of professional experience
  • Experience using Microsoft SQL server 2008, 2012, 2016 and above
  • Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment
